Undescended Testicles

An abnormal position of the testicle(s) is referred to as an undescended testicle. This condition is often diagnosed in children in their first years of life. In this malposition, the testicles are not located in the scrotum but in the inguinal canal or even in the abdominal cavity.

An undescended testicle can lead to impaired fertility. If the condition is not treated in time, there is also a risk of being diagnosed with testicular cancer later in life.

Treatment should therefore definitely be carried out before the end of the first year of life!

How do I recognise an undescended testicle in my child?

If you are unable to feel or see your child’s testicles, this is the first sign of undescended testicles. In such a situation, we recommend that you make an appointment at  our clinics. After a medical examination, we will explain the next treatment steps to you.

Treatment options for an undescended testicle!

An ultrasound examination can detect undescended testicles. In certain cases, additional examinations are necessary. To be on the safe side, a magnetic resonance imaging scan or laparoscopy (laparoscopy) is performed.

In the first step, medical treatment is suggested; if this does not lead to any improvement, a minor surgical procedure is necessary.
