Kidney Inflammation (Pyelonephritis)
Inflammation of the renal pelvis is usually the result of inflammation of the urinary bladder, which has ascended to the kidney. The clinical picture of pyelonephritis is not only characterised by inflammation of the renal pelvis but also by inflammation of the surrounding renal connective tissue. In most cases, pyelonephritis is caused by a bacterial infection. This serious illness is comparable to severe pneumonia and should be treated immediately.
What are the symptoms of pyelonephritis?
The most common symptoms are severe pain in the kidney area (flank region), high fever, chills, and back pain.
If pyelonephritis is not treated immediately by a specialist, there is a risk of acute kidney failure, blood poisoning, or, in extreme cases, even the loss of a kidney.
If you suffer from any of these symptoms, please make an appointment at any of our urology clinics as soon as possible.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you would like to make an appointment at any of our partner clinics.
